Works great independently or w/Alexa, great price-point!
These work perfectly. The app did not require extensive set-up and was easy to figure out. These are my first Smart home device, other than Alexa.I discovered that the 4 bulbs show up on the app with their own name “blub4ef5” or whatever (not a typo on my part, I think they meant ‘bulb’). I renamed each bulb according to location. Two are main lights in the ceiling fan in my master bedroom (“Main 1” and “Main 2”) and then on either side of my bed (“My Bedside” and “Guest Bedside”). They’re easy to adjust. I quickly figured out how to set my own scenes. A few tips:1) Do some Google searches, and quick screenshots for the images of the lighting setups you’ll want to keep. They have a few, but I’m extremely visually oriented, and I wanted my own. It was easy to select the screenshot for the image and use accordingly.2) Do a long-press on a scene to edit it. You can edit their pre-made ones, or make your own. I made a few, including having only one overhead bulb on at 10% called “nightlight”, etc. My favorite, and the main reason I purchased these, is for my wakeup routine.I’ve been wanting a sunrise alarm clock for several years. Unfortunately, the ones I’ve tried are just not right. (I feel like the princess and the pea!) I can’t stand the brightness of most clock faces, or any lights in my bedroom while sleeping. However, I often wake and need to see the time on a clock, so that I’m not forced to check the time on my phone. Then, many sunset alarm clocks have a really long “sunrise”. It was orcing me to wake up like 20 minutes before my alarm! Yet, setting my alarm forward 20 minutes could very well result in a bad/late morning. And, with my long COVID, I really need to protect my sleep. I seriously only need like a 2-minute graduation of lighting, which these handle very nicely (5 second, to many minutes increments are available).I’ve now set up Alexa to start a special light scene just for my wakeup, with a 2 minute graduation on only my bedside lamps. Then, she wakes me up nicely. She tells me some good news, turns the lights up all the way, and plays some music. It was terrific this morning!I had to set up several routines for Alexa to turn on and off my lights, and several specific lighting scenes, but it’s all done. I’m happy. No more getting up mid-virtual meeting to turn on lights in these darker months. No more annoyingness in turning my “guest side” lamps on/off across the king-sized bed. If I was out of town, super easy to create the illusion I’m home.Because my office is in my master bedroom, I’m going to experiment with timed lighting setups to go with my pomodoro sessions, with the hope of visual reminders that I’m supposed to be focusing. ( 😜 Mega-spaz, here). The app could use a few tweaks to functionality, like copying a scene, to perform minor changes and re-name. But seriously, for the price, these are terrific. Longevity has not been tested yet. 🤞

Amazing for waking up
I wanted something to wake me up at alarm time that slowly lit my room in the dark morning of winter. I looked into those sunrise alarms and not one had stellar reviews, didn’t require subscriptions or didn’t come with 18 bells and whistles I didn’t need. In the words of Gru, “light bulb”, literally. Why not try just a light bulb to wake me up and keep my regular alarm which I have no problem with. This thing works like a charm and I am in love! App is easy, stays connected, and I set it for Monday through Friday when I am supposed to wake up for a gradual sunrise and over the course of 15 minutes, it’s slowly illuminates my room waking me up. Best product ever for $10!

Some really great modes, but tedious to reconnect.
1st time ever getting Smart Bulbs. I actually ended up getting a 2nd set. Doesn’t need a hub and comes with a remote. I really like the different light modes, especially the one setting where the lights are red and sporadically turn off and on like in a 90 horror flick. The modes definitely can inspire some really cool light modes come holiday season. They definitely get really bright on the natural default settings (either warm or cool lights) and they seem responsive enough. The issue I have with them sometimes is the app will sometimes have issues connecting to the lights if ever there’s a power failure or ,if for whatever reason my router goes out (thanks Verizon), it just has a bit of a hard time reconnecting to those lights again. Also, the widget you use on a iphone can only go in the very left main window where they have those rows of widgets (as of iPhone OS 15+) instead of any main window.Besides that, as long as you have pretty decent wifi connection, using the app with these lights are fine. Added bonus that you can also use the remote without wifi to control the lights as well. And the inital installation is pretty straightforward.Great smart bulb starter kit for those apprehensive on getting on the Smart Home train. And it supports Alexa

Nice lights, helpful customer support
I am changing my review to 5 stars because these lights are quite nice. I originally received my pack of 3 bulbs with 1 broken bulb; however, their customer support responded within a day and I had a replacement bulb sent to me within a couple of days. The replacement bulb seems to be a newer model (the packaging had gold lettering, whereas the original box of 3 had green lettering) and shines slightly brighter; however, the difference is minimal and isn’t a huge concern. The lights are very easy to set up, and they have a variety of color settings. The “main” light as I like to call it, comes with a “cool” white color, and a “warm” white color, much like you’d think of your phone screen. The warm is perfect for night time settings, and the cooler color is perfect for the day. The white color is very bright; however, they can be dimmed which is extremely convenient. There is also a wheel on a separate tab so you can determine how “warm” you want the white to be, if you’d rather not use the 2 settings that are given on the main color wheel tab.The color wheel of lights is amazing. There is so much customization you can do with it, and I love it. The colors aren’t as bright as the white’s; but again, I have no problems with this. I don’t mind the dimmer colors, it helps set a relaxing but fun mood. It is perfect for when I want to play video games or watch Netflix.I find the app very user friendly. I’ve read some reviews that say it’s confusing, but the instructions are very well laid out and are quite clear. There are many different options I have not tried yet, such as music and other timers on the app, but the lights are great and they have many options. My only hope is that they last a long time, and if so, then this would be one of my favorite purchase. Time will tell for their longevity, but for now, I am very impressed and would highly recommend these lights!

VERY versatile light, as long as you avoid the dreaded WiFi mode
PROs:Very bright – claims to be as bright as 80W incandescent, and I agreeWonderful array of effects – this is far more than just setting a colorWiFi, Bluetooth, AND Remote controls – but each has drawbacks…VERY good app (Surplife)True dedicated white LEDs – and temperature control over whiteCONs:Base gets hot at full brightnessConnectivity has some big limitationsBlue color is questionable. Lots of LEDs struggle with blue, and therefore your blue may not match my blue…Vanance is yet another company that has Smart Bulbs. More well known are GE. Feit, and Philips. Vanance are quite a bit cheaper. Do they last as long? Who knows…The other vendors have the fewest choices for connectivity. Some are WiFi only. Some offer Bluetooth as well. Only Vanance includes a hand held remote. So let’s go over the connectivity options:HAND HELD REMOTEIf you don’t have Wifi or Bluetooth or don’t want to use them, you can always use the remote. This is a very cool thing about Vanance. Now, using the remote gives you VERY FEW available functions. You can set a limited number of colors, set a timer, set a few canned functions like auto color changes, and set white temperature. That’s about it. When you turn the light off and back on, it remembers the last thing you did on the remote and returns to it. For most folks, that is plenty enough. But if you want to change the color of your light, you need to use the remote. And the range is around 20 ft, so ALL bulbs in that range change color. That may not be something you want… I think the app allows you to pair specific lights to specific remotes…if you really want to have several identical remotes in your house.Setting up WiFi or BluetoothWhen the app first discovers a bulb, you set it up as EITHER WiFi or Bluetooth. You cannot switch between them once you set it up. To change it you need to reset the bulb via the app and rediscover it. Setup is really a breeze. You then give the bulb a name and you are done. Setup takes maybe 2-3 min per bulb.BLUETOOTHThis is in my opinion the ONLY mode to use. Bluetooth has almost all the features of WiFi with none of the downsides. You do NOT get the ability to change the colors synchronized with music, voice control, group synchronized lights, and some of the pre-canned “scenes”. You do get millions of colors and customizations (heartbeat, strobe, flames, etc). Once programmed to a color or customization, the light can be turned off and on and it will resume the same function or color – whether Bluetooth is present or not. So unless you are actively trying to change the function or color of a light using the app, you don’t need Bluetooth. Think of it as a greatly enhanced version of the hand-held remote. That being said, when you select a light to change, your app needs to connect with THAT light. That takes a second. Because of the rather short range of Bluetooth, you will not be able to turn off a light from several rooms away. Nor can you see the status of a light across the house from your app; you can only see status of lights in Bluetooth range. Probably the biggest bummer of this mode is that you cannot, say, turn off all of the Smart Lights in the living room at once using the app; you would need to turn them off one by one. You would be able to do that with WiFi.WIFISo why not use WiFi? Because the drawbacks far outweigh the few benefits…Once your bulbs are added to WiFi, you can group them (i.e. Living Room), and do operations on them as a group or individually. Through the app you will have access to millions of colors. You will also have access to some great canned “mood” effects, like heartbeat, color pulsing, color “breathing”, strobing, twinkling, etc. You can also create your own customized effects. You can easily switch between any special effects and your normal mode. You can set up timers for effects to happen. You can synchronize the lights in a room to have the same effect. You can set lights to change TO MUSIC. The lights don’t listen to the music; the app does, and it tells the lights how to respond.. I am using them outdoors for my Halloween display – strobes for synchronized lightning, pulsing lights on skeletons, And if you turn the power off, the special effect will resume when the light is turned on.Sounds amazing, right?Well, there is one MIGHTY BIG downside – if you lose WiFi connectivity, your lights will respond…in different ways. If the lights are on and you lose WiFi, you can program your light to handle it. By default, it keeps doing what it was doing. You can also program it to turn white. If your light is OFF and you lose connectivity, when you turn it on, it MAY stay off. It MAY turn and be white. It MAY turn on to the last programmed color. If you programmed a special effect, it will probably just stay off. When powered up, the lights just sit there until they find WiFi to tell them what the hell to do… So the lights never turn on instantly – and sometimes not all at the same time. This limitation is not limited to Vanance – ALL of the manufacturers use the same basic controller, so they all do this.Since the app can turn your lights on and off, you may decide to leave the light switch ON all the time and use the app to do everything,. That’s fine and dandy until your WiFi goes out and every single device on the app turns gray… So if your lights are in the ON position and you used the app to turn them off – and then WiFi goes out – you need to get up and turn the light switch off, then on – and then pray the lights actually turn on.Honestly, if you have crappy WiFi, I recommend you still get the bulbs – just use Bluetooth.WIFI ADDS NOTHING BUT FRUSTRATION.Hell, even you have the best WiFi in the land, use Bluetooth mode…The GE SmartBulbs ONLY support WiFi. No remote and no Bluetooth. God help anyone who buys them…

Amazing when they work
These bulbs are really nice. They have a lot of different settings, you can fine tune them to exactly how you want. Being able to control them with a tiny remote and save up to four different unique settings on them is invaluable. The app also lets you program them to automatically turn on or change at certain times. All of that’s pretty great when they actually work, which they often don’t. Randomly and frequently (multiple times per week) they will simply stop responding to the remote until you flick the light switch on and back off, and the automation from the app only works half the time. I only have them set up to turn on in the morning every day, and it’s an actual fifty-fifty as to whether I’ll wake up to them on or off.I don’t actually care that much about the automation with the app, but I wouldn’t suggest buying these if that’s something you intend to rely upon. As for the bulbs randomly stopping responding to the remote, it’s a pretty minor inconvenience but it happens so often that it’s the main thing that knocked two stars off my review. It’s annoying but I can live with it, though I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone else.

You need these in your life!
Did I mention great price point! I love these bulbs. No more getting up and turning off the light. These use a app to control them and that app offers so many functions its mind blowing. You can also group several together in the app to control them with one at once, for example I have 4 in my ceiling fan I grouped together as one.–App Functions–Daylight or soft warm white.Any color.Beats to music.Beats to your mic on phone for custom sounds.Movie mode dims and does whatever based on the movie your watching.Candlelight mode and has different type flicker settings.Camera mode I assume changes color based on object in camera views color?.On and on, I can’t name allOnly downside to these bulbs is if the loose power a few times by turning off the switch you’ll have to re-add them to the app (re-settle that bulb)Also the brightness isn’t that bright, description says 80watt equivalent but more like 60max in my opinion, just wished these were brighter or vender had a brighter bulb to choose from 100watt or 150watt. Not a deal breaker but definitely a bummer

Missing remote and dented bulb
There was no remote in the package, so the product was pretty much useless, and one bulb had a big dent in it. Clearly this is very poor quality control. I am unable to review how well the product works because I returned it.

Controllable Multicolor Bluetooth Lightbulb Responds To Music, Sound, Videos, and More
The media could not be loaded.
This Smart lightbulb connects to your phone (with the free Magic Home app) and can be set to any fixed color, produce on/off and varied intensity patterns, be set to look like a flickering candle, and respond to any sound from your phone microphone, music you are playing, videos, or camera. I can imagine a room of these at a party producing dancing colors in sync with the music adding another level of intensity to the event. Or, you can set this to candle mode for a soft flickering light to set the mood down low. There are also simple settings like warm and cool white that are easily set and the brightness is controllable for all modes. When you turn it off and back on, it remembers the last mode it was set to. And there are user presets where you can save your own custom modes. Plus it has a settable timer with varied brightness mode so your light will come on gradually as the sun goes down or when you are coming home at night.Linking to the bulb is easy using the app, though you have to choose one of your wireless networks that is on 2.4GHz to communicate to the bulb. If your network automatically switches between 2.4 and 5GHz modes, the bulb won’t be controllable when on 5 GHz, so best to choose a fixed WLAN 2.4GHz mode.Since this is an LED lightbulb with multiple independent Red, Green, and Blue colored LEDs and also Warm and Cool White LEDs that are mixed to produce any color, it is very energy efficient as compared to an equivalent light output filament bulb (Edison bulb). That said, the lower portion near the base of the bulb where the controller is does get pretty warm when the bulb is set to full brightness. BUT, this temperature is nowhere near the temperature of the old filament type bulbs, so is perfectly safe. With a room temperature of 73F, the Bulb base was a maximum of 160F (can’t touch for too long) and the bulb glass was a maximum of 113F (you can touch and remove without concern). This was with the bulb set to maximum power draw (warm white), all other settings are a bit cooler. This was my only initial concern with this lightbulb but it is so much more energy efficient than filament bulbs, it’s really a non-issue. But being curious, I took some power consumption data.Data taken on the power drawn:Mode Brightness Watts Volt-Amps Power Factor AmpsCool White 100 8.7W 13.9VA 0.63 0.11AWarm White 100 8.8 14.1 0.61 0.11Red (255,0,0) 100 2.8 5.5 0.54 0.04Green (0,255,0) 100 2.8 5.4 0.54 0.04Blue (0,0,255) 100 2.8 5.4 0.54 0.04Violet (255,0,255) 100 5.1 9.1 0.58 0.07BlueGreen(0,255,255) 100 5.0 8.7 0.58 0.07YellowOrange(255,76,0) 100 3.5 6.0 0.56 0.05Candle (set to High) 100 2.0-2.8 4.3-5.3 0.49-0.55 0.03-0.04Music Controlled by Music 1.5-4.0 4.1-6.4 0.43-0.55 0.01-0.05Microphone talking into Phone 1.6-3.9 2.8-5.9 0.54-0.49 0.02-0.0560W LED Bulb (for comparison) 8.5 12.2 0.69 0.10100W LED Bulb (for comparison) 14.0 23.3 0.60 0.19As you can see the maximum power draw is just under 9 watts. For those technical folks, you will notice the power factor is down around 0.5, so this raises the true volt-amp (VA) power consumption to just under 15VA maximum. This might be something the designers could look into improving but the power drawn is so low it doesn’t really matter much to your electric bill. The bulb is pretty bright in cool and warm white. Compared to 60W and 100W equivalent LED bulbs I also tested (see data above), my ‘calibrated eye’ does put it between the 2 for brightness, though closer to the 60W brightness, so I would say the claimed 80W of equivalent light is a little on the high side, it is closer to the 60W bulb. Also, the power draw of this smart bulb is closer to the 60W equivalent LED bulb I tested than the 100W equivalent LED bulb. Note that the power factor of those standard LED bulbs is also on the low side (the power factor scale has a maximum of 1.0 for a purely resistive load). For the other color modes and with music, etc., the light output is lower of course.I attached some photos and video of the bulb responding to music. Only 1 video was allowed so I used one with music but the candle mode is very nice too. We’ve enjoyed this bulb and it’s not that much more expensive than some standard LED bulbs. It’s fun to play with and has a lot of potential uses. And it can behave like a standard cool or warm while bulb also if you just want to read a book. The dimmable feature is also very nice if you wanted to turn it down really low as a night light. 5 Stars from me.

Absolutely Amazing!
I have tried several smart bulbs trying to find some bright enough for my very old standard lighting. I was specifically looking for just one for my bedroom, so I tested one there. Not only was it incredibly bright, I couldn’t believe all the presets that were available.I quickly went and installed all four bulbs into my livingroom ceiling fan, which is my only light source for that room. It was incredibly easy to install the app and activate the lights. The included remote also worked immediately.I wasn’t expecting much from this unknown brand, but honestly, I think this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.First of all, the included app has SO MANY cool presets to choose from. There are some for all four bulbs, and some for individual bulbs. I particularly like ‘Aurora’ which makes them a steady blue, green, purple, and teal. My second favorite preset is the ‘Candles’ setting which dims them to a candlelight and flickers them. It’s. So. Cool. The biggest advantage here though has been the remote. I have an old cluttered home and my livingroom tends to be not only for TV but for lounging, napping, and crafting. If I’m going to craft, I can hit bright white on the remote and then I can increase or decrease the brightness without getting out my phone. The brightest setting is so bright that I can comfortably draw, scrapbook, make charms etc. If I lay down and don’t want the bright white lights in my face, I can dim them to a comfortable level.I only use Alexa, but they seem to work OK with that. However, I have the fan plugged into a smart outlet, so I use Alexa to turn that on, then use the remote or the app to adjust the lights. May not be the intended use, but it works great for me.I am seriously overjoyed with these bulbs. The price is ridiculously good for the quality and the manufacturers clearly put a lot of thought into the app. They blow my Kasa/Tapo bulbs out of the water. So wonderful. You won’t be disappointed.
