A 2020–2021 U.S. survey of over 1,000 dog owners (published in **Applied Animal Behavior Science**) found that owners who used training collars were significantly more likely to report feeling frustrated, angry, or out of control with their dog's behavior compared to positive-reinforcement users.

Many admitted they bought the collar as a "quick fix" after traditional training failed — but the dogs' stress levels (measured by cortisol and avoidance behaviors) were higher with training collars.

The punchline? Owners who used training collars often felt guilty afterward and switched methods — one common comment: "I shocked my dog twice. He looked at me like I BETRAYED him. Never again."
